Review : All you can eat by Shame Mckenzie

I bought this ebook after I saw Shane (the author) eating a can of some disgusting fishy thing to promote his book, and I gagged so much and laughed at the same time (I don't recommend 🤣🤢). It says everything about the craziness of this book. 

As an emotional binge eater myself, cannibalism and food horror, always draw me, like something you shouldn't watch (or read), tickling all your sensible triggers, but you cannot stop yourself because it can be as creepy and totally insane as this book, and you are definitely disgusted and a bit unsettled, but you can still relate in some way. And that's where the horror of this book hit me straight to the right spot. Also it's fun to read, that helps. 

I think I spent most of the book, with a disgusted face, emitting (but enjoying myself) regular 'ughh' sounds while reading. My coworkers at the office found that really entertaining. 

I particularly loved the character of Lola, the cop, fed up by her gross male co-worker and totally traumatized by her childhood memories (the several scenes about her father creeped me so much and gave me those kind of uneasy goosebumps. It's how good Shane wrote her and her backstory). 

I loved that, as short as the story is, every character has some kind of backstory. It all clicked together pretty smoothly. It also gave me a mix vibes of From dusk till dawn and those disgusting American food contests (even more horrible from my European point of view 🫢). 

It's one of my best read this year and with this book Shane joined my little list of "automatic buy" authors. The rest of his books are already on my wishlist for next month book budget 😅.
